A rare case of ovarian splenosis.

چکیده
Splenosis is a very rare entity that often appears following a traumatic rupture of the spleen or after splenectomy and represents heterotopic transplantation of splenic tissue. The ovary is reported as an atypical and rare localization. We report a case of a middle-aged woman, which presented with a left adnexal mass. Transvaginal ultrasonography, computed tomography (CT) and high-field 3T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed the left adnexal mass. Laparoscopy was performed, and histological and immunohistochemical examination revealed that resected mass was splenic tissue.

Ovarian Splenosis: A Case Report
Splenosis is auto transplantation of splenic tissue following traumatic rupture of the spleen. In females it can mimic endometriosis when symptomatic. Asymptomatic splenosis is common than previously suspected and it can also involve ovary. In a patient with a history of splenectomy, splenosis can act and provide the function of the spleen and thus should not be routinely excised. We report a c...
متن کاملSolitary ovarian splenosis.
This report describes the case of an asymptomatic, solitary splenotic nodule in the right ovary, revealed incidentally at histopathological examination. In gynaecological patients, splenosis most often presents as multiple pelvic nodules mimicking endometriosis. Two cases of ovarian splenosis accompanying pelvic and serosal splenotic nodules have been reported previously. However, this is the f...
متن کاملAbdominal Splenosis: An Unusual Cause of Bowel Obstruction in a 7-Year-Old Child
Splenosis is a rare condition defined as a heterotopic auto-transplantation of splenic tissue, typically after blunt abdominal trauma. It can occur anywhere in the abdominal cavity, or even the chest. Splenosis found in clinical practice is relatively rare because most patients are asymptomatic. We report a rare case of abdominal splenosis in a 7-year-old boy, 3 years after an abdominal blunt t...
متن کاملSplenosis involving the gastric fundus, a rare cause of massive upper gastrointestinal bleeding: a case report and review of the literature
Splenosis, the autotransplantation of splenic tissue following splenic trauma, is uncommonly clinically significant. Splenosis is typically diagnosed incidentally on imaging or at laparotomy and has been mistakenly attributed to various malignancies and pathological conditions. On the rare occasion when splenosis plays a causative role in a pathological condition, a diagnostic challenge may ens...
متن کاملThoracic splenosis: History is the key
Splenosis is an acquired ectopic autotransplantation of splenic tissue; that occurs after traumatic splenic rupture and splenectomy [1]. Splenosis is a rare but benign disease, and the diagnosis can be challenging as the multiple incidentally found nodules could mimic malignancy [2]. Abdominopelvic Splenosis is thought to occur in as many as 65% of cases of splenic rupture [1]. However, Thoraci...
